Midfielder Steven Nzonzi’s future has yet to be decided but Rennes president, Nicolas Holoveck, has made it clear that his side want to keep the Frenchman.
Nzonzi joined the Ligue 1 outfit on loan in January 2020 from Roma after terminating his initial loan spell with Galatasaray. The deal between the clubs included an option to extend loan for an additional season, which Rennes exercised last summer to keep Nzonzi for the 2020/2021 campaign.
The 32 year-old proved, once again, to be a vital piece for the club, which is why Rennes are keen to extend his stay.
“Steven was a fundamental player for us this season,” Holveck said at a press conference earlier this week.
“We’ll calmly discuss the plans for next season with him. What’s certain is that he’s an important player, though, we have to say that we must also consider what he wants.”
Nzonzi’s contract with Roma expires next summer in June 2022 — which is why both sides will be keen to find a permanent solution in the upcoming transfer market.
