A new update has emerged regarding Edoardo Bove’s situation in the aftermath of his recent cardiac collapse.
Today’s edition of La Repubblica reveals that, while waiting for the results of the genetic tests that will arrive in the coming weeks, the player was given an MRI that found an area of the heart, the left ventricle, with a scar, which could have caused the crisis.
As early as today or tomorrow, writes the newspaper, the cardiologists of the arrhythmology unit at Careggi hospital could implant a cardiac defibrillator under the skin of the midfielder.
This is a device that allows them to monitor any heart rhythm changes, the use of which is foreseen by international guidelines for people who have had a cardiac arrest caused by an arrhythmia that caused a fibrillation for which defibrillation was necessary.
According to the newspaper, Bove has already given the go-ahead for the operation, which would be performed under local anesthesia and will allow the boy to lead a completely normal life.
It is still too early to say whether he will be able to play football again, but with an internal defibrillator the midfielder would not be able to take to the field in Italy.
In fact, Italian regulations are very stringent: to be eligible for competitive play, at least six months must pass from the implant and in the country, those with an ICD are only allowed to be eligible for moderate efforts that do not involve contact with opponents because the implant could still break.
