With the departure of Chris Smalling, Roma may have already found their replacement for the Englishman in the form of out-of-contract defender Jan Vertonghen.
Corriere dello Sport has reported that Roma adviser Franco Baldini has found an agreement with Vertonghen for a two-year contract worth roughly €3 million (net) per season.
The Belgian is a free agent after having spent the past 8 seasons at Tottenham. The Giallorossi have, reportedly, been courting the 33 year-old for some time and have managed to successfully sway the player in joining the Italian capital club.
Given the recent switch to a three-man defence, Roma view Vertonghen as an ideal reinforcement for Paulo Fonseca’s system.
