Revealed: Chris Smalling suffers chronic tendon injury

Roma are dealing with the absence of English defender Chris Smalling.

For the past few weeks, Smalling has been nursing a severe injury that could further sideline him in the coming weeks.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Smalling is suffering of a painful form of chronic tendon injury which dates back to the early stages of pre-season.

Over the course of the summer, Smalling was unable to get rid of the pain and his first two performances of the season highlighted a clear problem with regards to the Englishman’s fitness levels.

Hence the idea, shared with Mourinho and the medical staff, to stop until he is fully recovered. There is no internal tension between Smalling and Mourinho’s staff.
