Mats Hummels is officially a Roma player but not without more drama taking place behind the scenes.
As revealed by Sky Sport, before signing for the Giallorossi, the German defender had been courted by Lazio. Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito had focused on Hummels, who was still a free agent at the time, trying to convince him to join them.
However, the player immediately declined their proposal—prompting Lazio to shift their attention to Samuel Gigot to strengthen their defence.
Meanwhile, Roma took the opportunity and closed the agreement with the former Borussia Dortmund player, who was also engaged in discussions with Real Sociedad prior to accepting.
Since yesterday, Hummels is officially part of Daniele De Rossi’s team, ready to bring his experience and leadership to Roma’s line of defence.
