As anticipation for the third Serie A matchday continues to grow, Jose Mourinho is using these last days of international break to evaluate the players at his disposal.

With Matías Viña returning from international duty on Saturday morning, it is unlikely that Roma will be able to rely on the Uruguayan left-back for Sunday’s clash against Sassuolo.

Enter Riccardo Calafiori. According to Il Tempo, Mourinho is intent on fielding the 19-year-old for the first time as a starter this season. The youngster has already returned from Italy’s u-21, and is looking to replace Matías Viña in the moment of need.

Among other former Primavera players, Mourinho has reportedly placed a lot of trust in Edoardo Bove. The young midfielder, who featured as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Fiorentina, could play a larger role in the coming weeks.

Finally, Chris Smalling has put his last muscular injury behind him and began full time group training earlier this week.
