Former Primavera player Riccardo Ciervo – who in January interrupted his loan spell at Sampdoria in favor of a permanent switch to Sassuolo – was presented to the media earlier today as a new member of the Neroverdi.

Ciervo spoke of his decision to leave the Italian capital as well what motivated him to join Sassuolo.

“I learned a lot in Roma’s youth sector: I grew there as a player and a man. I owe a lot to Roma and will always be grateful to that club.”

“At Roma Lorenzo Pellegrini helped me out the most, especially in recent months. He gave me a lot of tips and advice on how to carry yourself in senior football.”

“I remember my first training session with the first team, it was very exciting. To be able to play with guys like Dzeko, Pellegrini and others was so great. I almost didn’t speak, my heart would race so fast. It was incredible.”

“My experience at Sampdoria taught me a lot. I remember in particular my debut with Samp. I thank them for giving me the opportunity to play my first few games in Serie A.”

“As soon as I learned of Sassuolo’s interest, I didn’t think twice about it. Pellegrini was also very supportive of the move. It’s a place where I can improve – a club that wants to achieve a lot and a place where I can learn just as much.”
