Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi discussed the difference in approach to last night’s defeat in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 with Roma.
In his post-match presser, De Zerbi praised Roma for their mental strength, which in his opinion is what helped them win 4-0.
“I told De Rossi that the only positive thing about the day was that I lost against a friend, otherwise it would have been a terrible evening,” said the Italian technician.
“We lost against a strong team, you talk about numbers, about the system but there is one thing that you who haven’t been footballers don’t know. Roma has become strong in this type of matches.”
“I see the matches and the players who were on the Roma pitch, I met them when I was in Italy and they were already strong, now they are mentally strong and are used to playing this type of matches. That makes the difference.”
