Roberto De Zerbi says Brighton ‘are not ready’ to compete in Europe

Andy Mattioli

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi admitted his side’s disparity in the face of European competition and having to play three games per week.

In an interview with The Athletic, De Zerbi – fresh off a 4-0 defeat to Roma in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 – said, “When you play three games a week it’s like playing another sport compared to when you play only once.”

“I often said it in the press conferences at the start of the season, we weren’t ready for this type of commitment, perhaps we didn’t organize everything in the best way.”
