Cagliari manager Walter Mazzarri praised his team’s spirit despite their 1-0 loss this evening in the Italian capital against Roma.
The Giallorossi snapped the Sardinian’s two match winning streak after a first-half penalty from Sergio Oliveira proved enough to seal the win.
“I’m pleased with how we interpreted the game. For me, we at least deserved a draw, maybe even a win given how we played in the second half,” Mazzarri told DAZN.
“Roma were in trouble, we had two clear-cut chances but we didn’t get the final details right. I also want to point out the refereeing performance. I really didn’t like the number of fouls we saw tonight.”
“Football is made up of contrasts, I wish this would be respected. I understand he’s a young referee but there were too many fouls, especially in midfield.”
Finally, “I thought we were well-prepared this evening, we just lacked the final piece.”
