Jose Mourinho and Roma have punched their ticket to the Europa League Round of 16, eliminating RB Salzburg 2-1 on aggregate.
The capital club secured progression after defeating the Austrians by a scoreline of 2-0 this evening in the Italian capital. Two quickfire goals from Andrea Belotti and Paulo Dybala late in the first half were all Roma needed to overturn the one-goal deficit they faced ahead of kick-off.
Both goals were assisted by left back Leonardo Spinazzola, who wreaked havoc on Matthias Jaissle's men throughout the match. The Italian supplied two perfect crosses on both goals with Dybala adding an exclamation point with a sensational volley.
At the back, veteran shot-stopper Rui Patrício was rarely troubled thanks to Jose Mourinho's tactical approach, which kept the visitors disjointed and isolated on the flanks throughout the affair.
Through to the next round, the Giallorossi's next opponent will be revealed tomorrow afternoon during the Europa League draw at UEFA's headquarters in Nyon.
The list of potential opponents Roma could face in the next round includes:
- Arsenal
- Real Betis
- Fenerbahçe
- Ferencváros
- Feyenoord
- Freiburg
- Real Sociedad
- Union Saint-Gilloise
