Roma accelerate for Maitland-Niles, offer straight loan deal

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Roma kick-off the second half of their season in less than two days, but they continue to be very active in the transfer market.

Last week, the Giallorossi opened loan talks with Arsenal for versatile midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles. They originally submitted a loan with option to buy offer, however, the Gunners never responded to it.

In an attempt to expedite the deal, Sky Sport reports Roma raised their loan-fee offer but also gave an ultimatum to the English side yesterday.

This helped “unlock” negotiations because the two sides are getting closer to a six-month straight loan deal for the Englishman. Though, the clubs would discuss the possibility of inserting an option to make the deal permanent in the near future.

Roma are attempting to close the deal as soon as possible after José Mourinho gave his blessing to bring Maitland-Niles to the Italian capital.
