Roma, Arsenal closing in on agreement for Xhaka

RomaPress – Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is just steps away from joining Roma on a permanent deal from the Gunners.

The two clubs are nearing an agreement on a transfer fee for the 28 year-old Swiss international following multiple weeks of negotiations. It’s the final piece remaining to the deal as Xhaka and his agent, José Noguera, have already reached an understanding with Roma on a four-year contract.

The clubs opened talks last month for Xhaka not long after Roma unveiled José Mourinho as their new manager. ‘The Special One’ is keen to bring him to the Italian capital and overhaul the team’s midfield — marking him as his first priority for the summer transfer window.

Xhaka has spent the previous five seasons with Arsenal after he joined from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2016 for nearly €35 million.

During his time in London, the midfielder has tallied thirteen goals and twenty assists in 220 appearances in all competitions.
