Granit Xhaka is very close to joining Roma on a permanent transfer from Arsenal.

Sky Sport reports this evening that Roma and Arsenal are closing on an agreement for the Swiss international after three weeks of negotiations.

Reportedly, the Gunners have lowered their asking price to €17.5 million after they rejected the Giallorossi’s recent offer worth €15 million. However, the parties are nearing a total agreement on the 28 year-old.

In addition, a source close to Xhaka informs RomaPress that they’re confident a deal will be in place by Friday, the unofficial deadline set by the midfielder.

The former Basel man urged his agent, José Noguera, to finalise the deal before Switzerland begin their Euro campaign on Saturday. He did not want to face any transfer-related questions during his media obligations and preferred to focus only on Switzerland.

In response, Noguera began further intervention on Monday, pushing Arsenal to lower their asking price of €20 million.

After back and forth discussions over the past two days, the Gunners agreed to lower their request in recent hours — leading to the clubs being steps away from finalising the transfer.
