Roma beat Ajax 2-1, Roger Ibañez: “This was an incredibly important win.”

Roma defender Roger Ibañez played the role of hero this evening after his goal in the 87th minute secured a 2-1 victory against Ajax.

The Giallorossi were victorious against the Dutch giants in Amsterdam tonight in the first leg of their Europa League.

Ibañez was all smiles at full after his thundering goal ensured a win for the Italian side. The Brazilian made up for his earlier mistake when he conceded a second half penalty, which was ultimately saved by Pau Lopez.

“It was a difficult game tonight, we held on until the end but then I managed to score, I’m very happy,” he said to Sky Sport.

He continued, “I must first, though, thank Pau for saving the penalty. It was a great reaction. “

”We have to face every team with this sort of attitude. Now let’s go back home and work hard to close this tie. Tonight was an important victory but nothing has been decided yet.”
