Roma being offered Arsenal defender Sokratis

John Solano

RomaPress – The track leading Chris Smalling on a permanent move back to Roma is slowly fading.

Pessimism is growing among the parties that a complete agreement will be found for the 30 year-old within the next four hours, which has led to the Giallorossi turning to other options.

One name that has emerged as a concrete possibility within the last hour is Arsenal’s Sokratis, who is being offered to the club.

The 32 year-old’s contract with the Gunners expires next summer and the Greek defender is not in the plans of manager Mikel Arteta.

The agent of the player, Konstantinos Farras, has been trying to find a solution throughout the summer for the player but no accommodation has yet been found.

With time ticking down on the transfer window, the Giallorossi could make a last-gasp move for Sokratis if they receive definitive word from Manchester United that Chris Smalling will not arrive. However, this is not expected to happen as the Giallorossi have previously rejected the chance to sign him.
