Roma bid farewell to Antonio Mirante

Roma said their goodbyes on social media today to goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

The veteran shot-stopper’s contract with the club expires next month and he was not offered a new deal. He is leaving the Italian capital after three seasons, having made 35 appearances in all competitions.

The 37 year-old initially joined Roma for free in the summer of 2018 to provide cover for Robin Olsen, who was tabbed as the replacement to Alisson.

However, he found himself unexpectedly thrusted into a first choice role mid-season after the Swede’s putrid performances.

Mirante thrived throughout the 2018/2019 campaign under Eusebio Di Francesco and Claudio Ranieri but was ultimately replaced in the summer by Real Betis’ Pau Lopez.

This season, though, things couldn’t have gone worse for Mirante. He conceded 29 goals in 15 appearances and suffered multiple blunders.
