RomaPress – “Someday soon, but not now because the conditions aren’t there”. Antonio Conte was clear and concise with his words during his interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ex-Chelsea boss didn’t hide his admiration for the environment, the supporters and the club, however, there is still something about this Roma “project” that irks the Italian. What is it? We can speculate all we want but the most obvious name is that of James Pallotta, the American president who has been at the helm for nearly a decade. Clearly Conte saw something that made him hesitate as he has now forced Roma to look in another direction. And the candidates? The name of Maurizio Sarri will continue to circulate until we definitively learn his future. The Napoli-born boss is and has been the name most appreciated by Pallotta’s most trusted confidant, Franco Baldini. The former Tottenham sporting director has been in contact with Sarri over recent months and there’s no doubting the pair have discussed the possibility of Roma. But despite the firm “No” of Conte, Roma are remaining calm. According to a source within Roma, many at the club either believed the chances of landing Conte were incredibly small or didn’t believe he was at all a possibility. It’s possible that the club even decide to wait to make a decision until the season is over or until they have a clearer picture as to whether or not they will be playing in the Champions League next season.
