Roma CEO Guido Fienga pushing for Atalanta’s Sartori for Sporting Director role

John Solano

Roma’s search for a new Sporting Director is stretching into its third month.

After potential candidates Jonas Boldt, Michael Emenalo, and Jonas Boldt were crossed off of Roma’s list over the previous two weeks — a new name has emerged as a potential candidate candidate within the last 48 hours: Atalanta’s Giovanni Sartori.

Corriere della Sera has reported today that the 63 year-old Technical Director of La Dea is the candidate being most heavily pushed and recommended by Roma CEO Guido Fienga, who would prefer that the club appoint an Italian Sporting Director with familiarity of Serie A as opposed to a foreign option.

Reportedly, Satori’s relations with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasprini have deteriorated and he is now open to departing the Bergamo-based outfit, whom he has worked for since 2014 after spending over 20 years with Chievo Verona.
