Roma are reportedly making concrete steps toward the formal appointment of Francois Modesto as their new sporting director.
Over recent weeks, discussions in and around Trigoria among members of Roma’s upper management revolved around Modesto and his fit for the vacancy left by Tiago Pinto who departed the club in February.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, these discussions have involved the likes of Roma CEO Lina Souloukou as well as Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
Souloukou made a strong case for Modesto: the pair worked together at Olympiakos and Modesto is deemed a young candidate with an international reputation who would match the future-oriented and modern American ownership of the capital club.
According to the general agreement already reached with the necessary “authorization” from Monza chief executive Adriano Galliani, Modesto will be released from Brianza in June, despite having another year on his contract with Monza.
At the moment Modesto is Roma’s first choice and an announcement regarding his appointment is expected within the coming weeks.
