Roma closing in on Rui Patricio, Granit Xhaka

Andy Mattioli

The two hottest names for Roma have been those of Portuguese goal-keeper Rui Patricio and Swiss international Granit Xhaka.

The club has had an agreement with both players for a while now. Both players are waiting to join Roma in the coming weeks.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Sport, Rui Patricio should become a Roma player by Sunday, with Roma paying Wolverhampton a fee of €11 million in total.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper is expected to then join the squad in their pre-season training camp in Portugal, namely in Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region. Patricio will end his summer vacation in advance in order to train under Mourinho.

For Xhaka the situation is more complicated, reports Di Marzio.

The player is eager to join the Roman club, but Arsenal want to secure a midfielder before letting him go: so far, Gunners have contacted the likes of Ruben Neves and Sassuolo’s Manuel Locatelli. Thus, Roma will have to be a bit more patient before they can get their hands on the Swiss international, too.

Finally, Sky Sport claim that in the absence of Leonardo Spinazzola, Pinto has made it clear he wants to try and find a younger replacement with future potential for Roma’s left flank to put alongside 19-year-old Riccardo Calafiori.
