Roma have officially announced their plan to extend Daniele De Rossi’s contract and make him the long-term coach after appointing him as interim manager in mid-January.

Earlier today, the announcement was posted on the club’s official website, with Dan and Ryan Friedkin being quoted in the announcement, and indicating their intentions of making De Rossi their long-term option “for the foreseeable future.”

According to Sky Sport, the decision to make this announcement prior to the return leg with Milan in tonight’s Europa League match-up was purposely taken in order to dismiss the recent rumors of De Rossi’s uncertain future and send a strong message to the coach and players ahead of a crucial game.

The sports network suggests that Roma and De Rossi have yet to complete all the formal proceedings to make the coach’s renewal official.

In the coming days, all parties will meet and begin negotiations that will touch upon De Rossi’s wages and contractual details including the length of his new deal.
