Roma were victorious this evening in Portugal during the first leg of their Europa League tie against Braga.
The Giallorossi defeated Carlos Carvalhal’s side by a scoreline of 2-0 thanks to goals from attacking duo Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral. It’s a very strong result by Roma, whose injury crisis in defence grew even worse after both Bryan Cristante and Roger Ibañez came off injured.
Despite the being ravaged by injuries in the game, manager Paulo Fonseca praised his side’s spirit during the post match.
“Tonight was a display of incredible team spirit,” he said to Sky Sport.
“We had several guys playing out of position, but we held up well. Tonight was very difficult. We’ve struggled against the big sides this season but most of those matches were played away from home.”
“Now most of the matches against the bigger teams will be played in Rome and we’re working to be stronger against them.”
The Giallorossi will host Braga in Rome for the second leg of their knockout fixture next Thursday at the Stadio Olimpico.
