Roma defender Gianluca Mancini shares closest bond with Jose Mourinho

Andy Mattioli

Roma defender Gianluca Mancini remains one of Mourinho’s most trusted warriors.

The Italian centreback, in good and bad, continues to provide the Special One with consistent performances and a sense of sacrifice which is invaluable for the Roma head coach.

As reported by Corriere della Sera, Mancini shares the closest bond with Mourinho. The pair recognize similar traits in each other such as tenacity and perseverance in the face of hardship; the latest example of this being Mourinho’s praise of Mancini as the Roma vice-captain continue to play through pain on Sunday night, eventually scoring a goal against Udinese.

Mancini is only second to Cristante in number of minutes played this season – a grand total of 1436 minutes.

Mourinho is said to have the most confrontations with Mancini because of their closeness and mutual trust in each other. The defender embodies the ‘bandit’ spirit that Mourinho would like to convey to all other team members as well.
