In the first friendly of the preseason, Roma dismantled Pinzolo 16-0 in the rain Wednesday afternoon.

Although a meaningless practice match against a far inferior opponent, it never hurts to get some confidence and score some goals. With Kevin Strootman captaining the side, Roma wasted little time in taking control of the game with two quick goals from Mohamed Salah. Edin Dzeko then bagged the third from a rebound after Strootman’s thunderous shot from outside the area came off the crossbar.

Primavera player Christian D’Urso scored the fourth after the Pinzolo defense failed to clear Dzeko’s header. Dzeko himself grabbed Roma’s fifth after controlling Strootman’s lovely pass over the top on his chest and slotting past the keeper.

After Dzeko completed his hat-trick, Vasilis Torosidis got in on the act in what was a very productive first half for the Greece international. Dzeko added his fourth before Diego Perotti slotted home to complete an astounding 9-0 half time score.

Despite whole sale changes at half time, Roma continued its dominance as Juan Manuel Iturbe won and converted a penalty just seven minutes after the restart. Shortly after, the Paraguayan avoided to sliding challenges before laying the ball on for Federico Ricci to score the first of his two goals on the day. New signing Gerson then notched Roma’s 12 goal with a left footed shot from the top of the box.

Ezequiel Ponce and Ricci took advantage of some calamitous defending from Pinzolo, before a brilliant shot from Iturbe from long distance left the keeper frozen on his line.

The full list of goalscorers includes: Dzeko (4), Salah (2), Ricci (2), Iturbe (2), D’Urso, Torosidis, Perotti, Gerson, Ponce, and Di Livio.
