Roma deterred by Kalvin Phillips’ wages: Giallorossi remain unconvinced by English midfielder

Andy Mattioli

Roma are one of the clubs to have been offered the services of English midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Phillips remains outside of Manchester City’s plans and is thus in search of a new team after his brief loan at West Ham United.

His entourage have been lining up options for him in England as well as in Italy.

Roma happened to make contact with one of Phillips’ intermediaries in recent weeks.

The Giallorossi are looking to strengthen their midfield and one of Daniele De Rossi’s requests is a box-to-box midfielder akin to Phillips.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Phillips was offered to Roma on a loan deal.

Roma technical director Florent Ghisolfi listened to the proposal but did not respond.

Phillips’ wages are what concern Roma the most: the Englishman earns over €8 million which is deemed unsustainable.

The capital club are making an effort to slash their wage bill and signing Phillips would not help.

Moreover, the Giallorossi remain unconvinced by Phillips recent track record of inconsistencies and injuries.
