Roma director Vincenzo Vergine details Mourinho’s role in the club’s youth development

Andy Mattioli

Head of Roma’s Youth sector Vincenzo Vergine – who was recently responsible for appointing Andrea Cupi as the club’s new Primavera coach following Alberto De Rossi’s departure from the role – spoke about Mourinho’s impact on the Giallorossi’s youth development.

“Over the years he’s the first coach to really focus on the younger players,” Vergine told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He makes his presence felt, he closely follows the Primavera games, so the players feel considered.”

“At Roma there is an unparalleled integration and sharing of processes that make the club work. For example, the training sessions of the first team coincide with those of the Primavera. We work in synergy with Tiago Pinto and Mourinho.”

“We want to be able to hand players like Zalewski to the first team, but not all courses are the same and not every young player can be a starter for Roma.”
