Roma General Manager Tiago Pinto condemned the decision-making by referee Anthony Taylor in last night’s Europa League final.
Following the Giallorossi’s defeat, Pinto released a statement to ANSA.
“The penalty not awarded for Fernando’s hand-ball is there for all to see, but our frustration does not arise solely from that single episode,” said the Roma director.
“Matic is booked for an elbow on a header with Ocampos, the contact is almost accidental. If this was Taylor’s criterion on improper use of arms, then Lamela’s elbow to Ibanez would undoubtedly should have been sanctioned with a red. Roger suffered a conspicuous wound while Lamela was pardoned several times from the second yellow to the end of the second half of extra-time.”
“We congratulate Sevilla on their success, their team fought hard, but I want to say clearly on behalf of the club that the refereeing conduct was not up to the standards of a European final.”
