Roma eye Benfica’s Nuno Tavares

Roma continue to strategise for the upcoming transfer window in order to give newly appointed manager, José Mourinho, much-needed reinforcements.

Mourinho and Tiago Pinto, the Giallorossi’s General Director, have been in constant communication regarding the team’s needs on the transfer market and the pair have their eyes on several potential options, including one familiar face.

According to calciomercato.it, Pinto has his sights set on a player at his former employer, Benfica: 21 year-old left back Nuno Tavares. Reportedly, the Portuguese executive is likely to open talks with Benfica in the coming weeks to try and acquire Lisbon born defender, who has been previously linked with Newcastle United.

Pinto spent nearly a decade working at Benfica alongside Rui Costa before joining Roma in January 2021. He still has a very strong relationship with the club, which he could exploit in an attempt to fend off competition for the signature of the youngster.
