Roma eye Mariano Diaz as vice-Dzeko

One of roles Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi will look to reinforce in January is the role of “vice-Dzeko” after Nikola Kalinić’s flop in Rome.

Corriere dello Sport reports that one of the names that the Giallorossi could potentially (and easily) acquire is Real Madrid’s Mariano Diaz. The player wants to play more and the club already held talks for him this past summer. The Spanish side would even allow him to join on loan for free. The only stumbling block to a potential deal would be his wages: the striker earns €4.5 million (net) per season — a figure that would put him at the top of Roma’s wage bill.
