Roma eyeing Stoke’s Imbula

John Solano

The Telegraph: Roma are ready to offer Stoke City’s £18.3 (€21.7) million misfit Giannelli Imbula the chance to revive his career.

Imbula, Stoke’s record signing, is a target for the Serie A club this summer and is expected to leave the Potteries after less than 18 months.

The French midfielder has been frozen out by Mark Hughes this year and Roma have made preliminary contact over a potential deal. It is understood Stoke will accept as little as £10 (€11) million for Imbula, who was signed from Porto in a transfer which smashed the club’s previous record fee which was spent on Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 24-year-old has not started a Premier League game since the 4-1 defeat at Liverpool on Dec 27 and is now struggling to even make the 18-man matchday squad.

But Imbula’s reputation remains high in both Serie A and Ligue 1 and Stoke are hopeful of recouping as much money as possible.
