Roma are trying to assess the extent of Chris Smalling’s injury and his return to the pitch.
Yesterday, the English defender travelled to London – along with members from Roma’s medical staff – to meet with Andy Williams, the surgeon responsible for Tammy Abraham’s recent knee surgery.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are frustrated and preoccupied with Smalling’s unclear status given his reluctance to return to group training.
The injury suffered by the English centreback seems to have fully healed, yet Smalling continues to feel pain and as a result has refused to take part in group training activities.
The newspaper claims Smalling’s situation is very delicate due to the veteran’s dietary and medical habits: Smalling does not believe in painkillers which forces him to sit out longer periods of time in order to completely get rid of any type of pain or inflammation.
