Speaking while on national team duty with Italy, Roma fullback Leonardo Spinazzola discussed the impact of Jose Mourinho in the Italian capital.
Appearing on the Discord channel “NFT FanAst”, the 30 year-old commented on the Special One’s ability to help the team attain results they likely wouldn’t have been capable of previously.
“Mourinho is a sincere person who knows how to use the stick and carrot with his players,” said Spinazzola.
“This is one of the things I learned in the two years I’ve had him as a coach. His approach towards you all depends on what he thinks you need. At any given time, he can be hard on you or he can be consoling, it’s all dependent upon what he believes is needed and will motivate you.”
He continued, “He’s changed the mentality of all of Roma. Before he arrived, we perhaps played nicer football but we weren’t effective.”
“Even myself I’ve changed entirely, instead of being more flashy on the pitch I’m more attentive to details and more intelligent in various situations. That’s why when it comes to Mourinho, I don’t like to talk about him strictly in the sense as a manager but first and foremost as a person.”
“He’s the person all us Roma players have been following since the very first day he became our coach.”
