Roma are reportedly targeting Atletico Madrid defender Caglar Soyuncu as their next January signing.

After adding Dean Huijsen to their squad following a loan move from Juventus, Roma are now interested in pursuing the ex-Leicester City centre-back who is currently faced with very limited playing time under Atletico coach Diego Simeone.

According to the latest report by Calciomercato.com, the Giallorossi have held a first round of talks with Atletico Madrid – discussions were mostly positive and involved Soyuncu’s entourage who are pushing to find him a new team to join for the remainder of the season.

The same news portal suggests that Atletico’s initial demands – a loan with option to buy – are steadily decreasing with the possibility for Roma to secure another dry loan which would the most favorable condition for the Italian club.

However, a lot depends on whether Roma will be able to off-load Leonardo Spinazzola before the transfer deadline – the fullback weighs considerably on Roma’s wage bill and is taking up a precious roster spot in the team’s UEFA list.

Same thing goes for Renato Sanches – the Portuguese midfielder could depart Roma in the coming weeks.
