Roma hunt for Salah replacement

John Solano

Il Tempo journalist Alessandro Austini has revealed a detailed breakdown of potential candidates who could replace Mohammed Salah at Roma while the Egyptian is on national team duty for the African Cup in the winter.

Spalletti already has a plan in place and when asked about replacing Salah the Tuscan joked: “What will we do? Simple, we will buy a player who’s exactly the same.” He was obviously joking because the Mister knows the cost of players with the same quality of Salah. It’s also well-known that the January budget will be set forth through a few minor sales: perhaps sending Gerson on loan and selling Iturbe. New sporting director Ricky Massara is trying to identify a winger who can take the place of Salah. In recent weeks, he was offered the Dutchman Memphis Depay, who is at odds with Mourinho at Manchester United.

Depay has the same agent as Kevin Strootman, who Roma are finalizing a new contract with. The obstacle, however, is the high salary: the operation for Depay is possible only for a loan with an option to buy and a contribution to the player’s salary by United. But the competition for Depay is huge. Another profile that is somewhat similar is Hatem Ben Arfa of PSG. France is a second home to Massara and this could where he decides to “fish” for his new player. Ntep of Rennes, Fekir of Lyon, Mbappe of Monaco, and Thauvin of ntract with Rennes in June and treated even from Lazio. The Giallorossi notebook there are also Fekir of Lyon, Marseille and Thauvin of Marseille are other potential possibilities.
