Roma, Lazio in talks with Leonardo Bonucci

Andy Mattioli

Veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci hopes to remain in Italy despite interest from Union Berlin.

Over the course of the summer, Bonucci found himself excluded from Massimiliano Allegri’s team and is no longer considered a part of Juventus project.

As a result, his entourage have been looking for potential suitors in Italy and abroad.

Despite having engaged in negotiations with Union Berlin, Bonucci is prioritizing his stay in Italy.

According to calciomercato.com, Roma and Lazio are both targeting the Italian centreback.

The news portal claims Roma have opened talks with Bonucci’s agent on Jose Mourinho’s request: the Special One is said to be a fan of Bonnucci and considers him a fitting back-up option to Chris Smalling.

Roma are currently seeking an additional defender following Roger Ibanez’s exit and Bonucci could be one of the more viable options left on the market.
