Roma legend, Bayer Leverkusen director Rudi Völler: “We eyed Tammy Abraham before Schick.”

Former Roma striker Rudi Völler – currently serving as Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director – admitted to his side’s early interest in Tammy Abraham in a recent interview with Il Messaggero.

“I like Abraham a lot,” said Völler. “Before signing Schick from Roma we followed him.”

“I knew he had little space at Chelsea and I tried to bring him to Leverkusen.”

“Ultimately, Roma signed him and I’m happy for them. Abraham is a fast striker, technically very good.”

Finally, the German director touched upon Patrick Schick’s rebirth in Germany after two disappointing seasons in the Italian capital.

“At Roma he had Dzeko in front of him, he was young and every time he played he turned the game into a test he needed to pass.”

“When there was a chance to sign him, I immediately found an agreement with Fienga.”
