Roma legends Bruno Conti and Paulo Roberto Falcão took to social media to pay their respects to former Italian national team striker Paolo Rossi.
The Azzurri hero, who led Italy to its third World Cup victory in the summer of 1982, passed away earlier today at the age of 64 following a battle with an undisclosed, long-term illness.
“You took us to the top of the world,” wrote Conti on Instagram. “Bloody 2020…goodbye, my friend.”
Meanwhile, Falcão, whose Brazil side was stunned 3-2 by Italy after a hat-trick from Rossi, also paid homage to the former Juventus striker.
“Brazil already cried because of him, but now it cries for him,” said the former Roma midfielder.
“Paolo Rossi snatched a World Cup away from us, but he won us over with his will to live and play football.”
