RomaPress – The January transfer window is open and Roma are looking for options to reinforce the team. One of the areas sporting director Gianluca Petrachi would like to upgrade is the central defender position. With Juan Jesus linked with a move away, the Giallorossi would like to bring in a name to potentially replace the Brazilian or Mert Çetin, should the Turkish youngster ultimately go out on loan.
One of the names that emerged today as a candidate is Paraguayan defender Omar Alderete of Basel. It’s true that Roma are interested in the player, however, they do not an available non-EU slot.
The agent of the player, Renato Bittar, spoke exclusively to RomaPress and confirmed his client would be considered a non-EU player — which would effectively ruled out a January move to Roma (unless of course he were to be issued an EU passport in the coming days).
”Right now, I can’t discuss the situation. Does he have an EU passport? No,” said Bittar.
