Roma are making concrete steps forward in their talks with German defender Mats Hummels.
After the veteran centreback’s farewell to Borussia Dortmund, contacts between the Giallorossi club and the player’s representatives are ongoing.
Roma are concretely interested in the 35-year-old and consider him a valuable addition to De Rossi’s squad both in terms of quality and experience.
Hummels would slot in as Chris Smalling’s replacement – the Englishman is, according to most reports, on his way out of the club.
Hummels, for family reasons, would prefer to choose a team that allows him to easily fly back to Munich during his days off.
For this reason, the defender has already discarded offers from Saudi Arabia and, probably, also from Türkiye. His desire is to end his career at a club located in a large central European city, which is not too far from Germany in terms of flight hours.
In Italy, Roma is the club that has shown the greatest interest and has already taken concrete steps to sign the defender. Milan, however, withdrew from the race due to the gap between supply and demand being too high.
According to ReteSport, Roma are making progress in their talks with Hummels and the player’s entourage.
The news portal suggests that Hummels’ priority is to reach an agreement within 10-15 days at the most in order to be ready for preseason training with his new club.
Roma is working to find an agreement that satisfies both the needs of the player and those of the club.
One of the options on the table is to propose to Hummels an annual contract with the option of automatic renewal for another season, based on the number of appearances, following a formula that was already applied in the past for players such as Mkhitaryan and Matic.
