RomaPress – With the remaining hours of the January transfer window waning, a report published by popular Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claimed Roma defender Chris Smalling handed in a transfer request.

The website wrote the Englishman asked to leave the club before next week’s deadline because he and his agent haven’t reached an agreement with the club on a contract renewal.

However, multiple sources from both Roma and the player’s entourage moved quickly to deny the report to RomaPress, insisting they’ll meet in the coming weeks for further talks surrounding a new deal.

Smalling’s contract expires in June but both he and the club are eager to extend his stay in the Italian capital.
