RomaPress – With Patrik Schick likely to join RB Leipzig permanently and Nikola Kalinić set time return to Atletico Madrid, Roma will once again be on the hunt for a new “vice-Dzeko” this summer.
One of the names the Giallorossi have expressed interest for in the past and continue to pursue is Shakhtar Donetsk’s Júnior Moraes.
Before the Ukrainian League was forced to stop due to the Coronavirus, the 33 year-old managed to grab 17 goals and 7 assists in 19 matches — making him the top scorer in the league.
Giallorossi boss Paulo Fonseca has already recommended to sporting director Gianluca Petrachi to make an attempt to bring his former player to the Italian capital this summer at all costs as he wants a new striking reinforcement.
Moraes is viewed as an ideal option for a number of reasons: he is familiar with Fonseca’s system of play and would be a relatively low-cost operation for the club as his contract will expire in June 2021.
Both Roma and Bologna made attempts to bring Moraes to Italy in January, however, they were unable to find any sort of agreement with Shakhtar.
The striker would like a new adventure this summer and Italy is viewed as his preferred destination. Fonseca would very much like to reunite with his former striker in the Italian capital, which has led to the club having already initiated talks with the his representatives.
