Roma, PSG in talks for permanent deal for Gini Wijnaldum

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to return from his fractured tibia injury sometime within the next 4 weeks after joining his teammates in his first group training sessions earlier this week during the team’s training camp in Portugal.

Even though he’s made only one official appearance for the club, Roma want to keep Wijnaldum at the club beyond the expiration of his loan deal in June.

As a result, Roma GM Tiago Pinto is engaged in talks with the midfielder’s parent club, Paris Saint-Germain, reports Il Tempo.

The ex-Liverpool man has settled well in the Italian capital since his summer move and is eager to extend his stay, eyeing a permanent switch to the club.

He’s determined to secure a transfer switch out of Paris following his disastrous 2021/22 season—so much so that he’s willing to reduce a significant portion of his €7 million (net) salary.

Given his limited playing time due to injury so far this season, Roma are trying to lower the fee that was agreed upon earlier in the summer.
