Roma put sights on Ex-Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward

Andy Mattioli

Roma are going through an extensive list of potential candidates to take over the position of sporting director at the capital club.

With General Manager Tiago Pinto set to depart his post in less than two weeks, the Giallorossi are holding talks with numerous candidates for the job including ones with Premier League experience and more specifically, with a full-proof scouting network which is what Roma are prioritizing at the moment.

According to Il Tempo, ex-Tottenham, Southampton and Leipzig executive Thomas Mitchell is the current favorite in the race.

However, the newspaper also adds that – in addition to Thomas Edwards who was linked with the Giallorossi on Monday – Roma as of late have put their sights on another former Liverpool director: Julian Ward.

Ward served as the Reds’ sporting director between 2022-23. Prior to that, the English executive covered a number of roles with Liverpool’s hierarchy including Assistant Sporting Director.

In the early stages of his career, Ward specialized as Manchester City’s scouting strategist for South America.
