Roma are reportedly closing in on Salzburg defender Oumar Solet.

According to La Repubblica, Solet is the favorite to strengthen Roma’s defense in January as the capital club continue their search for reinforcements in light of Chris Smalling’s prolonged absence and Evan Ndicka’s imminent departure to AFCON.

The newspaper suggests that Roma GM Tiago Pinto has already reached an agreement with the French centreback who would happily join Mourinho’s ranks mid-season.

However, for the transfer to go through, Roma still need Salzburg’s approval.

Here, Tiago Pinto’s task will be decidedly more complex, because the Giallorossi cannot spend and are aiming for a loan with option to buy, which could become an obligation if they reach the Champions League. Negotiations are open, thanks to the agreement reached with the 23-year-old.
