Roma ready to offer €17m for Smalling

Chris Smalling has returned to Manchester United after his loan with Roma expired — but the Giallorossi are hard at work to bring the Englishman back to the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has reported today that Roma are ready to make a fresh offer for the defender: a loan worth €3 million with an obligation to buy for an additional €14 million, totaling €17 million. This would be in addition to the €3 million that the Giallorossi paid for the loan of Smalling last summer,

Smalling has already informed the Red Devils that he wants to return to Roma and is even willing to lower his wage demands to see the move through. In the event that the Giallorossi can’t complete a deal for the 30 year-old, then they would likely turn to Napoli’s Nikola Maksimović or Arsenal’s Sokratis.
