Roma are trying to convince Chris Smalling to extend his stay in the capital beyond the expiry of his current contract.
The capital club consider Smalling one of their most valuable assets and quality players at Mourinho’s disposal, yet the Giallorossi do not hold an option for Smalling’s automatic renewal. The player will get to decide whether to extend his stay in the capital upon reaching 50% of all season appearances.
In the meantime, Il Messaggero reports that General Manager Tiago Pinto has recently also acknowledged Inter’s interest in the ex-Man United man. The Portuguese director is willing to match Inter’s offer and will thus soon suggest to Smalling a two-year extension.
For Smalling, at the age of 33 this would be the last chance for a major contract.
