Roma reject Newcastle approach for Chris Smalling

Roma have reportedly rejected an approach made by Newcastle United for defender Chris Smalling, Il Romanista reports.

The capital club have been approached by the English side with an offer for the veteran centre-back of around €12 million with a two-year contract for the player.

However, the Giallorossi deem Smalling to be the leader of their defense and for the time being the club do not wish to part ways with the 32-year-old.

Discussions regarding Smalling’s departure could resume in the summer as Roma continue to work on their long-term project aimed at young player profiles.
