Roma respond to Torino’s Urbano Cairo and deny interest in any Torino players

John Solano

Reports over the last 48 hours have heavily linked Roma with a potential transfer move for Torino’s Nicolas Nkoulou. The Cameroon international requested to be held out of his side’s clash yesterday against Sassuolo as speculation increased that this was due to interest from the Giallorossi. After the match, Toro president Urbano Cairo was furious with the former Lyon man and revealed that if Roma had indeed contacted Nkoulou – they violated a written agreement in place between the clubs. Roma responded late this morning with a press release that said the following:

“In reference to the recent comments made by the president of Torino FC, Urbano Cairo, and reported by a number of media outlets, the club would like to clarify that it has never made contact with any Torino player and is not interested in any member of the Granata squad.”
