Roma sneak past Bologna 1-0, Gianluca Mancini: “Now we prepare for the most important game of our season.”

Roma got back to winning ways in Serie A this evening, defeating Bologna by a score of 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.

The capital club captured all three points thanks to a first half goal from Borja Mayoral, who took advantage of a Danilo to score his sixth goal in Serie A. Despite the Rossoblu having the bulk of goalscoring opportunities, they failed to make the most of their chances.

It marks Roma’s first clean sheet in the league since 7th March and gives them an important confidence boost before they host Ajax in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Italians lead the tie 2-1 on aggregate thanks to their fantastic result three days ago in Amsterdam. However, defender Gianluca Mancini explained that his side will have to show more fight on Thursday than they did today in their victory against Bologna.

“Obviously the Europa League is an important competition. We played great last Thursday, but we have to fight more than today if we want to earn a result,” he said to Sky Sport.

“We’ll start preparing tomorrow, but it’s the most important game of our season so far. We’re in a period right now where the games are packed in, and we’re starting to feel it.”

He added, “But the most important thing today was winning and we did so. It was a great feeling to wear the armband today for such a great club like Roma. I have to admit, I was quite anxious before kick-off! I didn’t want my first match as captain to end badly.”
